Clarity and certainty over plans after your passing

Planning ahead for a time when you are no longer around is not something many people like having to do, but it can save a lot of heartache, cost and disagreements between those you leave behind, and ensure things happen the way you would truly wish.

A Will is essential to ensure this with regards distribution of your property and possessions, whilst Pre-Paid Funeral plans allow you to pay in advance for your funeral, fixing the costs at today’s prices and removing the need for your loved ones to cover the costs.

Wills and Prepaid Funerals – Your Questions Answered

A Will is a legally binding document which means you, as an individual, can decided what you want people to inherit, be it money, property, possessions or sentimental items.

Pre-Paid Funeral can save your loved ones lots of worry and expense at a difficult time, knowing the funeral which is held is as you would want.

Do I need to make a will?

The answer is yes if you want to make sure your property and possessions are inherited by those you choose. Without a Will, your partner (if unmarried) will not inherit anything, yet, if you’re separated without divorce, your spouse would be entitled to inherit your estate.

If you die without a Will, there is no guarantee that things will go to those you wanted, which can of lead to family disputes and fallouts.

What else can a Will enable you to do?

With a Will you have the freedom to make specific requests such as charitable donations and funeral requests. You can also select treasured and cherished possessions which carry great sentiment to go to whomever you have in mind.

How do you make sure your Will remains valid?

Your Will should be continuously updated, alongside any major changes in your life.  Having a Will that is not up to date could seriously impact upon its beneficiaries.

Keeping your Will up-to-date ensures its validity and if the terms of your Will do not marry up to the circumstantial situations when you pass away, is often worse than not having a Will at all.

What is included in a Prepaid Funeral Plan and how much do they cost?

Funeral plans will vary from provider to provider and don’t always cover everything you may need for a funeral.  For instance, a church service and limousine procession may be included, but the burial plot may be left out.  Funeral costs, such as flowers, are often a separate entity too. It’s important to check and clarify the details of what you get for your money before agreeing to take out a Funeral Plan.

A funeral plan can be dependent on your specific requests, however, a typical plan can cost anywhere from £3,000 -£6,000.

Whether your plan is purchased from a Funeral Plan provider, or funeral director, it can often be paid off in lump sum amounts or monthly instalments over a period of one to 10 years.
